A passion for simplicity through excellent design.

I love technology and finding ways to make it easier to use. I know that when a system is easy for a customer to use, the engineering underneath is usually hugely complex. It required careful planning and execution. And it needed everyone who made it to be truly passionate about each detail.

I’m driven by solving complicated software-hardware challenges—especially where precision and performance matter. I believe in engineering designs that are simple to use but hard to achieve.

I remember when I was a student, a NASA guest speaker told us that if each of the thousands of systems in a rocket was 99% reliable, the rocket as a whole would never make it to space. I think about this every day as I write software, or put a prototype board together, or design an image processing algorithm. Achieving 99% is not nearly good enough, and even when I think I’ve done a good job, part of me knows I ought to double-check it. It could be better. It has to be better!

I’ve written about a few of the most interesting projects I’ve worked on. I’m extremely proud of my contribution to each of these, and I hope you find them interesting.
